I’ve seen tons of posts about volunteer orientations and ongoing needs on Twitter lately. I thought I’d summarize a few of them.
Tomorrow is the last day you can RSVP for a volunteer orientation for The Women’s Center in Fort Worth, which occurs Saturday at 10:00 am. These only happen twice a year, and you must be over 18. The Women’s Center offers rape crisis and victim services. They are looking for victim advocates, helpline volunteers, computer lab volunteers, and employment advisors.
Back on My Feet is having an orientation Monday. I’ve written about this before, but it involves committing to running with homeless participants.
I don’t know if Ronald McDonald House requires an orientation, but they are also looking for volunteers. They house families whose children are undergoing treatment at local hospitals. (Hopefully Ronald won’t be there, because he is super creepy.)
Metro Relief is a Christian Organization that uses its own bus to deliver food, clothing, and hygiene supplies to the homeless in Dallas and Fort Worth. They also work at a food pantry in The Colony.
Cornerstone Assistance Network is specifically looking for volunteers aged 55 and older. They place volunteers with around 50 different organizations in the fields of economic opportunity, education, healthy future, and capacity building.
They also need volunteer translators, mentors, a data assistant, teachers for their Women’s Job Corps, a director for their ESL program, and bible study leaders. http://www.canetwork.org/volunteer.aspx
If you like baby animals, Paws in the City needs fosters who can bottle feed kittens! (And who doesn’t like baby animals? Monsters, that’s who.) This is probably the most adorable volunteering opportunity you’re going to find. And it doesn’t require a huge time commitment. They’re only looking for people to take the kittens for a couple of days and then pass them on.
Check my Twitter for all sorts of one-day volunteering opportunities and fun charity fundraising events to attend, like a football kickoff party, a fashion show, a music festival, a casino night, a golf tournament, and a food truck festival, to name a few. There’s something for every interest and budget.
